“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”

— Mark Van Doren

About Us

In 2007 we opened the doors to The Discovery Preschool.  We have created a space where children can explore, discover, play & create in an environment that fosters independence and a love of learning.  We are a learning community that celebrates each other and grows together to explore the world around us. We meet the unique needs of each child by creating meaningful relationships with them and surrounding them in a dynamic learning environment. We are partners with parents to provide an amazing first school experience for all kids who enter our doors.

Our Teachers

When my dream of opening a preschool started to become a reality I knew that finding the right teachers was key to creating the space I dreamed of for kids.  Teachers at TDP are special.

We approach kids in a unique way.  We listen. We love being with them.  We laugh.  We teach.  We celebrate them.  We connect. We meet them where they are and we encourage them to grow.  We know and understand that every child’s story and journey is unique and we want to honor their just right pace.

We encourage relationships with kids, teachers and families that are built on mutual respect, kindness and understanding. We lead by example and meet kids where they are.  We celebrate their successes and we love and encourage them through their challenges. We believe in them.  We have high hopes for them and we cheer them on ALWAYS…even when they leave our walls. Connecting with kids is our most important job here and we are so honored to do it.

Our Space

Our school is nestled on three acres of open space with grass and trees and mountains in the distance.  There is a private airport just next door where little planes take off often during our school day.  We have an outdoor covered classroom built from the skills and the contributions of our staff and families in 2020. We have an outdoor mud kitchen, garden boxes and lots of uneven ground for our kids to navigate outdoors. We run and play and get cold and wet sometimes, just as we should.

Our inside classrooms are divided into learning disciplines that encourage exploration of art, building, math, science and language.  Our kids explore in sensory tables, imagine in dramatic play areas, make messes in art and explore through science.  Our teachers create materials and spaces that encourage kids to wonder and experiment to play and create.

Outside Classroom and Playground

At TDP, our outside classroom is just as important as our inside classrooms. When outside, kids can be busy running and playing in our field, working at our tables with art, sensory and science materials or creating in our Mud Kitchen. Everything at TDP is for kids! Teachers spend a lot of time creating an environment that allows kids to be curious, exploratory and creative.

Our Curriculum

We have created curriculum units inspired by the natural world around us. Our themes are influenced by Science and the innate curiosity of young children. We learn about Farm and Fall, Geography, the Solar System, Dinosaurs, Our Bodies, Growing Things, Life Cycles, Sea Life and other topics that kids become inquisitive about throughout our year.  We fill our shelves and circle times with real world work and experiences that pique the interests of kids.  We make connections to their lives outside of school and invite them to share and explore the topics we present in a deep and meaningful way. Our curriculum is organic as teachers allow the needs and interests of children to impact our environment and teaching. Things are always evolving and changing in our curriculum and our classrooms. There is room for all kids, all learning styles and all topics here at TDP. We follow the lead of kids as they show us their interests. Because of that, each year looks a little bit different at TDP….just the way we like it!

Our Community

At TDP we have created a learning community that offers:

A place to play,
A place to learn,
A place to make new friends,
A place to make connections,
A place to grow,
A place to love,
A place to belong…

And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Come DISCOVER with us at TDP!

The Discovery Preschool has been such a warm, loving and nurturing environment for my children to begin their education. The school has amazing teachers that genuinely care about the social, emotional, and educational development of all students.
